Abstract. Hossain MM, Uddin MS, Baral PK, Ferdus M, Bhowmik S. 2022. Phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity of Ipomoea hederifolia stems: A potential medicinal plant. Asian J Nat Prod Biochem 20: 41-47. L., a plant Convolvulaceae family, popularly known as morning glory, possesses numerous values. The present study aimed to explore the bioactive compounds I. stems (IHS). IHS was soaked in methanol for 21 days. filtrate concentrated using rotary evaporator after filtration obtain extract which is subjected phytochemical various tests. Antioxidant determined 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) reducing power (RPA) methods. screenings revealed that carbohydrates, tannins, flavonoids, phenols, saponin, alkaloids, steroids, anthraquinones, cardiac glycosides. DPPH model moderate (IC50 :174.08 µg/ml) comparison with standards (IC50: 102.28 µg/mL AA; IC50: 88.52 BHT). It indicates exerts free radical scavenging dose dependent fashion. RPA also produced (EC50: 279.58 IHS; EC50: 23.121 50.84 BHT) depending on increasing order dose. Based findings this investigation, we can conclude potentials may be path discovery traditional medicines remedies many critical diseases.

Screening of Thirteen Medicinal Plant Extracts for Antioxidant Activity

Antioxidants are vital substances which possess the ability to protect the body from damage caused by free radical induced oxidative stress. A variety of free radical scavenging antioxidants exist within the body which many of them are derived from dietary sources like fruits, vegetables and teas. In this study the antioxidant activity and radical scavenging activity of methanolic extracts of s...

Screening of medicinal plant extracts for antioxidant activity.

The methanol extracts of nine medicinal plants traditionally used in Chinese medicine were screened for antioxidant activity versus resveratrol, which has been shown to protect cells from oxidative damage [Toxicol. Lett. 102 (1998) 5]. Most of the plant extracts used in this study inhibited the H(2)O(2)-induced apoptosis of Chinese hamster lung fibroblast (V79-4) cells. The extracts of Areca ca...
